Cupcake Toppers With The Cricut

Have you made cupcake toppers with the Cricut? They are so much fun and so cute.  There are lots of great ideas on Pinterest, and Cricut Design Space has thousands of designs to choose from.

Making these toppers helped me a lot in getting a better grasp on how to do some new to me things in Design Space.

A Few Tips & Tricks

You will need to resize your design so it’s not too big on the toothpick. I usually make mine between 1.25″ to 1.75″. Sometimes it takes some trial and error to get just the right size.

The majority of the toppers have four layers (sometimes more). There’s a base layer, two center layers and a top layer. They’re super easy to make and bring in some pocket change. If you’re looking for a way to make money with your Cricut, this is a great option.

Starting out I created multiples of the topper in Design Space so I could cut multiples at one time. Then I figured out that I just needed to make one and then tell the software how many I wanted to cut out.

Another thing you will want to make sure you do is cut out the front, and then mirror the image and cut out the back. I put all of the pieces for the front in a baggie labeled “Front.” I do the same for the back, because sometimes the designs aren’t exactly the same on the left and right side.

And Then There Are Cake Toppers

I’ve made several cake toppers for customers and they’re also fun to make. You need to know what size the cake is so you know how big to make the topper.

Hi, I found your post as I was searching for beach party themed cupcake toppers. These are not only adorable and just what I wanted, but your post itself is very informative and helpful. I have to admit that I will be asking a friend who already has a Cricut to make these for me. I do not have my own Cricut,YET. But after reading through your blog, it won’t be long now. Thank you!

Please do a tutorial! I am interested in your whole process but also would love to know how to tell the software how many I want.

    1. Hi Krystle, when you click on Make It the next screen will have a Project Copies option where you can choose how many copies you want.
