Custom Wedding License Plate

Did you recently get married and want to share it with the world? Check out this cool DIY custom wedding license plate.

I got this idea from Amy Makes That. She has a really cute picture of her and her fiancé together with her holding the sign.

Making The Custom Wedding License Plate

The first thing you will want to do is a Google search for an image of a 12″ x 6″ license plate. I had no problem finding one. Get an image that has the four holes because that’s the kind of License Plate you will want to buy.

You can use the Shapes feature to make this design, but it’s so much easier to just find an image of it.

Once you save the license plate image to your computer, upload it into Design Space. It will look like this.

Do a search for a license plate font. Here is a link to the one I used. It would be really nice if you gave this guy a donation. He was so appreciative when I did (no affiliation just showing my appreciation).

Add your text to the License Plate and arrange it like it is in the picture below. The hearts are from the Shapes section on the left side of Design Space.

You Can Design The License Plate Any Way You Want

Here are just a few options.

  • Engaged
  • Your last name
  • Both of your initials
  • Your future last name
  • Date of your wedding

You can add the following details to the middle of the design in between the month and day and the day and year.

  • Engagement rings
  • Wedding Rings
  • Circles
  • Hearts
  • Stars

When you have all of your text in place click the eyeball on the right to hide the license plate. Highlight your text and click Attach. That will keep everything in place when you go to cut it out.

Using the Black Vinyl load it onto your mat and cut your design out. Weed the design with your Pin Pen or other weeding tool.

Place the Transfer Tape over the design and burnish it well. Peel the transfer tape and design away from the backing. Line it up on the License Plate as shown below. Burnish it well. Remove the transfer tape.

Wouldn’t these make a great gift!

If you make one, share in the comments of my Facebook group K Peck’s Creative Cafe. I would love to see yours.

Until next time.

This is such a great idea. My son and his fiancé are “eloping” in Vegas this October. Not sure why they’re calling it an elopement. Anyway, this would be such a cute thing to send them. But first I’ll have to pull my Circuit out of the storage unit.

    1. I love this so much. I hope I get to make one for myself someday!!! If I can help you with your Cricut, let me know.
